Pride of Olney High School [POOHS] dazzled the community of Olney with an end-of-year spring concert. Rodney Bennet, director of bands for the Olney Independent School District; Marilyn Bennet, associate director, Michael Shelton, assistant director and the POOHS, put on a masterful end-of-year spring concert to a packed house May 10. Drum Major-Conductor Natalie DelVillar opened the show, leading with: “Chorale-Salvation is Created.” Bennet took over conducting to lead renditions of “The Big Cage,” “Foundry,” “Moscow 1941” and “The Light Eternal.” The prestigious honor of Texas Music Scholar was earned by oboe players Jennifer Martinez and Lily Thames. The Texas Music Scholar Award designates students in high school music programs who exemplify attributes of meritorious performance in scholarship, musicianship and citizenship.

A $6-million bond issue to build a new baseball complex in Olney failed by 25 votes, while two statewide measures to roll back property taxes passed overwhelmingly in the May 6 special election, unofficial results from Young County election officials showed.

BATON ROUGE, LA (04/29/2022)-- Lauren DeHoyos of Olney, Texas, was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. DeHoyos was initiated at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.
