OHS Robotics team competes at Denton

The Olney High School Robotics team had a contest in Denton on Saturday, Oct. 28 in the Collin County Regional contest at Guyer High School as part of the BEST Robotics Competition.

The team consisted of Angel Alvardo, Rodolfo Arce, and Aidyn Bitner. They had several runs throughout the whole competition.

“Each team member drove twice for a total of 8 rounds in regulation play,” said Coach Sabrina Laurent. “However, the team earned a bonus round since their Engineering Notebook scored well. Angel earned an additional 60 points in the bonus round.“ Some tasks that the team robot BEMO needed to complete was to remove arterial plaque from the arteries -- small wooden blocks from large pipes -- and put them into a “biohazard box.” The next task is to place a stent (a plastic cup) inside the artery, and then replace the heart valves.

Laurent said BEMO was able to remove the plaque. It also picked up new heart valves and removed the old ones.
