We all remember that great movie, “The Cowboys” starring John Wayne. We have not lived in the cattle drive era, but old movies have given us some understanding of the life that cattle drovers endured while living in the saddle and sleeping on the ground for many weeks at a time.
An article in the June 11 Olney Enterprise discussed child development. COVID and digital devices were discussed. And I have an opinion to express.

My father-in-law was a farmer, as were many of his siblings. But farming relies heavily on the weather and many other things. When his children were small, Mr. Jeske opened a small engine repair shop in town. Farmer’s auger engines were part of his work. He added several things to the business, such as renting medical equipment. Eventually, he sold lawn mowers, line trimmers, and chain saws, as well as working on those and other small engines.
I was thinking back in time when our family was young, and we were always thinking of things to do as a family. My husband decided that it was a great day to have a picnic in the park on a hot July day. Let’s be clear…his idea of a family picnic was to have fried chicken and potato salad. I am talking about “home-fried” chicken, and “homemade” potato salad!—That was in the days before Chick-fil-A, Sonic, or any other quick, pick-up food to go.
