A forgetter’s prayer

A forgetter’s prayer

When I stop thinking about your goodness, this world terrifies me. My brave, bold strides turn to undetectable shuffling, until I stop moving altogether and just stand there, melting into the shape of everything that I’m afraid of. Too often as Christians we have a tendency to feel a strange sense of pride when we hear that a fellow Christian has fallen into sin. We share prayer requests for Christians who are caught up in disobedience, and we shake our heads with concern, inwardly judging that we are doing better than that fallen one, that we may not be perfect, but at least we aren’t where he is. We grow pride-puffed with even the slightest indication that we are more righteous than another. But there could be no feeling in the world more in tune with the devil himself than pride, especially in the face of another’s sins.

County Commissioners Court Briefs

County Commissioners approved a $20.4 million budget for the 2024 fiscal year that includes a 5-percent pay raise for all County employees as well as funding for special projects such as digitizing the County Clerk’s archive, matching funds for a mobile mental health team and upgrades to the County arena and the 91-year-old Young County Courthouse. The budget is $1.2 million higher than the current fiscal year’s $19.2 million budget, funded by a small increase in the property tax rate, 0.587674 per $100 valuation, versus the current year’s 0.587609 per $100 valuation.
