OPD Arrest Man Who Fled on Scooter
An attempted traffic stop in the early morning hours of Aug. 22 turned into an unusual pursuit when an Olney man fled police on a motorized scooter.
Faulty Wires Suspected in Highland Fire
Firefighters from the Olney Volunteer Fire Department responded to a blaze Thursday morning, Aug. 21, at a home on 1216 Highland Street. The fire, believed to be electrical in nature, started in the garage and was quickly brought under control. No injuries were reported, according to Olney Police Chief Autumn Thames. “Thanks to the quick response of Olney Volunteer firefighters, the fire did not spread to the rest of the home,” she said. Fight at Allsup’s Lands Dallas Man in Jail
For the second time in 10 days, the Olney Police Department responded to an arrest at the Allsup’s gas station on 401 W. Main Street, this time involving a domestic disturbance that escalated into an assault.
New Hospital Sees Rain Delays, Still Under Budget
The new Olney Hamilton Hospital is rising about a week later than expected due to rain delays, water line complications, and title issues that have slowed progress in recent weeks, project manager Dave Lilley of Skiles Group told the hospital’s board of directors at their August meeting.
