ELIASVILLE— Young County residents on Nov. 5 challenged backers of a proposed solar farm on transparency, environmental impacts, endangered species, floodplain maps, fire risk, stormwater controls, property values, relatively low job creation, and the lack of a single regulatory agency overseeing Texas solar farms.

With Thanksgiving approaching and Christmas just around the corner, Virginia’s House and Dr. Goodall’s House are entering their busiest— and most urgent—season of the year. The nonprofit, which serves abused, neglected, and traumatized children across Young, Stephens, and Throckmorton counties, is preparing holiday baskets, running its Toys for Joys program, and ramping up outreach as more families turn to the organization for help amid shrinking social-service support.
As Young County officials study the financial implications of two major proposals—a multibillion-dollar data center project and the 300-megawatt Tapaderos Solar and battery storage development near Eliasville—they are also confronting a deeper structural challenge: the county taxes only about 30 percent of its actual market value.
Young County Judge Win Graham said he toured two data centers in Garland earlier this month to better understand what a similar facility might mean for Young County. He began at an apartment complex surrounded on three sides by data centers— with another facility under construction across the street—and said he could not hear any noise from any of the buildings while on the apartment grounds. Several residents he spoke with were unaware of what the large windowless structures contained, and none reported experiencing noise or vibration.
