Olney High School has earned national recognition from U.S. News & World Report, ranking No. 1,873 among public high schools nationwide and No. 200 among Texas high schools for 2025-26.
The Olney High School Senior class enjoyed donuts, orange juice, and a spectacular sunrise on the first day of school. Dubbed Senior Sunrise, each year the Senior class meets at Cub Stadium for a morning social before the last year of high school begins for these students. Memories and tears flowed.
The Olney Economic Development Corporation served up an ambitious menu at Old Time Cafe on Aug. 12: a home factory, downtown apartments, new life for two landmark buildings, and a lakeside recreation area complete with docks, a beach, and food trucks.
A tradition most Olney High School Seniors seem to enjoy is the Paint the Town or Leave Your Mark event. The event, usually held at the intersection of State Highway 79 and State Highway 16, was moved in front of OHS this year as Texas Department of Transportation crews repave the roadway.
GRAHAM — Young County Commissioners took another step toward negotiations over the proposed Project Saltworks data center campus on Aug. 10, formally receiving a tax abatement application from the project’s developer while opponents again urged county officials to slow down or reject incentives altogether.
