The Olney Chamber of Commerce awarded the top prize at its annual Golf Tournament to a couples team, Steve and Darla Fikes, paired with Rick and Jill Davis. Steve Fikes has been a longtime Chamber supporter through the Farmer’s Bureau Insurance Agency of Graham.

The Olney Country Club debuted its brandnew swimming pool May 20, three years after the original 1966 pool was shut down for repairs. The 88,000-gallon pool had to be dug out and fully replaced at about $175,000, said Olney Recreation Association President Landon Rowe. “We had some wonderful people and businesses donate to the cause of getting a new pool in,” Rowe said. “Without them, we wouldn’t have been able to do what we’re doing out there. We want them to know that we appreciate them.” The pool is open to Olney Country Club members and their guests. The cost to join the country club is a $250 initiation fee plus tax and $64.95 per month for a social membership that includes access to the pool, tennis courts and 19th Hole bar and club. Full membership is $92 per month after taxes and includes access to the nine-hole Texas Golf Association-rated golf course and the other amenities.

The City has hired Casey Keeter to manage the municipal swimming pool this year and is still looking to bring on more lifeguards, Interim City Administrator Arpegea Pagsuberon said. Keeter “is working hard to get the new lifeguards certified, and our Public Works Department is prepping to open the pool in time,” she said on a Facebook post. If all goes well, the City will open the pool June 3, at 1 p.m.
