Lady Cubs Gear Up for the Season

Olney Lady Cub volleyball is back and is now practicing for the upcoming season. The Lady Cubs are back with another year of experience, with all volleyball players from last season returning to this year’s squad. “Last year was a big learning year for us. Half of our team had never played volleyball before,” said Coach Pulliam, who is going into her 2nd year as the Head Volleyball Coach for Olney. “This year just in the few short days we have been practicing already, they look phenomenal compared to last year,” Pulliam added. Pulliam is building a volleyball culture in Olney, after several years with Olney not having a volleyball program. Pulliam added that she along with the rest of her staff and players are very excited for this season. The Lady Cubs will not be in a district this year but will be competing against schools all across the surrounding area and North Texas. Coach Pulliam said she has her eyes sight on winning more games than they did last season and will continue to get better and grow as a team. “Our players still learn on a day to day basis and you can really tell that they have absorbed it within the last year. It is pretty neat to watch them advance so quickly,” Pulliam added.

Nickel prepares the way for online instruction

Nickel prepares the way for online instruction

Dr. Tony Nickel, the Director of Technology for Olney ISD, has been busy preparing for the elementary, junior high, and high school students to go online with their instruction, beginning Monday, March 23. The district is primarily utilizing Google Classroom for its online teaching platform as well as other websites that will help teachers achieve their state learning objectives. Nickel said, “We are blessed to have the most current technology available. My responsibility involves ensuring that each teacher, student, and parent have full access to educational sites. Every student from kindergarten through twelfth grade will be able to receive the lessons provided through these platforms. The students will be able to submit their work online, with teachers able to offer the feedback necessary for learning. We are fortunate to have a great faculty and administration who can make the adjustments to online instruction so quickly. When this pandemic ends, Olney ISD will be better than ever. I am just another piece of the puzzle as I strive to keep the technology working for our teachers.” Olney ISD, under the direction of Superintendent Roach, will keep the Olney ISD students learning and receiving a quality education, even while the schools are closed due to this pandemic.
