Since 1938, the Maskat Shriner Oil Bowl has been the most anticipated sporting event for North Texas high school sports enthusiasts to look forward to at the end of each school year.
Coach Eric Symank of the Olney High School boys’ varsity basketball team, hosts a summer camp to help prepare athletes for the fall basketball season. Coach Symank says the athletes spend about an hour on skills like dribbling, passing and shooting then move into more specific skills such as jump stops, passing and pivoting among many other necessary skills.
One of the many youth summer camps taking place this summer is OHS Couch Eric Symank’s speed and agility summer camp. Coach Symank is the Coach of the Varsity Boys basketball team and knows that it takes a lot more than just being able to make a basket. Over the summer Coach Symank has been training a great many of the Olney youth what it takes to be successful in sports, including running drills that will increase the young athletes speed and agility which is a key composite in all sports. “In every sport today, you have to be able to change directions and be fast,” Coach Symank said.
It’s summer in Olney and that means plenty of camps going on. Olney High School Softball Coach Mollie Pace hosted a softball camp with the help of OHS Volleyball Coach Nikole Piercy and some OHS Varsity Softball Lady Cubs. Coach Pace says that the future Lady Cubs are learning softball fundamentals like catching, batting, retrieving grounders and much more.
