My Nickel’s Worth

A few weeks ago, a friend and I were able to go to March Madness in Indianapolis. It had always been something that I wanted to go to but never had the opportunity. We drove to Indianapolis to watch our favorite team--Oklahoma State, and see potential no. 1 pick in the NBA draft Cade Cunningham, play in March Madness. We also watched another game later that night between West Virginia and Morehead State. This game was held in Lucas Oil Stadium--where the Indianapolis Colts play. I grew up watching Peyton Manning and the Colts so it was incredible to be able to visit. This trip to Indianapolis will always bring back incredible memories. I never thought that in the midst of a pandemic, I would be able to go to the NCAA tournament and watch my favorite team play--and they won! One night, I had just thought about the idea of going and driving to March Madness, but I never thought it would actually happen. Lately, I’ve been thinking about how life is just flying by. As I recently just turned 24, it’s hard to believe-and I’ve been promising myself that I will make every moment count and not let anything pass me by. This was one of the coolest experiences I’ve ever had and I have to thank my friend Wiley for joining me! Go Cowboys!

The grace of God is the very soul of the gospel. It is woven in the fabric of God’s character and without it man would be forever lost. It is God’s abounding grace that beats with every heartbeat of a believer that gives him hope to see another day. Praise be to God for His reigning grace in the life of all Whom He calls, for as the scriptures tell us, “Where sin increased, His grace abounded all the more.” This grace not only abounds and is triumphant over sin, but it reigns through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. For it was through Christ alone that we are able to stand anchored in grace and through His precious blood that we have salvation.

Four year old Emerald and I sat at the back of the fellowship hall while Chad talked about the resurrection. The crowd that had come for lunch was now just nibbling on brownies and finishing up the last of their sweet tea, and Emerald crawled into my lap, nothing to do but watch her daddy as he gestured and preached at the front of the room. “Early on the first day of the week,” he read, “while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance.”

I will be turning 24 in just a few days. It is hard to believe and with another birthday coming up, it has giving me time to reflect on my life to this point and where I am today. As I begin life in my mid-20’s, I think about so many different things—including my childhood, vacations, major events, and college. I also try to remember my previous birthdays and where I was then, in retrospect to where I am now.
