David W. Parkey, First State Bank’s new Vice President, has lived in this area his whole life with his family ranch originating in Archer County in 1882. When First State Bank’s Olney branch opened in May of 2014 they were without a designated, full time branch manager or officer. Having attended college at Tarleton State University and Texas Christian University, he was a perfect fit for the job. The Parkey’s already felt a close connection to Olney, having transferred their oldest daughter from Archer City to Olney Elementary in 2007 to enroll in the Scottish Rite Take Flight dyslexia program. In Addition, the Parkeys two youngest children were both born at Olney’s Hamilton Hospital. In 2019, Parkey decided to take that step and fill the position of Vice President. “We are very much at home in these small communities and servicing our customers and that’s where we (First State Bank) fit. All of our people are small town local people and this is where we want to be,” Parkey stated.

Red, White and Blue

While I was looking up the history of Fourth of July and reading about the Thirteen Colonies, my attention stuck on the American Flag. In turn it made me think of my Faith. I have seen the American flag my entire life, but I never truly focused on it. Maybe because my Faith in the Lord has grown or maybe because I’m seeing through spiritual eyes more now than ever before, but the colors reminded me of Christ and my salvation.

THE REFUGE

“As Jesus went on from there, He saw a man called Matthew, sitting in the tax collector’s booth; and He said to him, “Follow Me!” And he got up and followed Him.”
