Ed Sterling Retires from TPA

Texas Press Association (TPA) Member Services Director, Ed Sterling, retired July 22. Sterling was employed by TPA for 28 years. He had many duties at TPA, including editing publications and writing the well-known Capital Highlights column. “His value to the industry cannot be measured and his absence will be glaringly obvious,” Executive Director Mike Hodges said. “We wish him the very best and hope that he fully realizes how much he is loved by all members of our association.”

DPS Reminds Texans to Take Extra Safety Precautions as Summer Heat Continues to Blaze Across the State

AUSTIN – As the dog days of summer continue and temperatures across the state top triple digits, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) wants to remind all Texans to take extra safety precautions, as the heat can pose an increased danger for at-risk populations — including children and the elderly — particularly in vehicles.

Commissioner’s Court, July 13

Young County Commissioner’s Court held its first meeting of the month on July 13. The court began the meeting by discussing the June activity for the jail and the Sherriff ’s office. Followed by considering the treasures financial report and securities pledged. Next up was to discuss the auditors budget amendments and the payable vouchers. The court discussed an employee bond for Sharri Lynn Ashley, the assistant county auditor for 5,000 dollars.
