City Council held their second meeting in the month of June on the 22nd. It was a shorter meeting that consisted of a variety of topics, beginning with a presentation by Honeywell, Inc. right after the invocation was given.
Highway 114 Diner has closed once again to due to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic. The Diner had previously been closed for months before reopening on June 22. The Diner has now been closed once again as of June 26. It is a combination of reasons, according to co-owner Donnett Wiley. “It is the lack of workforce, mostly because of the unemployment and because of the COVID restrictions,” Wiley said.
Four arrests were made so far for the month: July 2 – White/Female, Age 41 County warrant Possession of marijuana; July 2 – Hispanic/Male, Age 54 Credit Card Abuse; July 8 – White/Female, Age 29 Credit Card Abuse Elderly; July 8 – White/Male, Age 51 Indecency with a child.
The Tom Griffin Park, located on Springcreek Road and South Avenue M, is undergoing renovations for new park and playground equipment and is expected to complete its transformation within the next two weeks. The updates will include replacement of outdated park equipment that was more than several decades old. The last renovation to the park was made in 2014 when the 1,800 foot ‘walking trail’ was added and later the addition of the bridge in 2018.
Air Tractor Europe, in a joint venture with Saab Support and Services, recently delivered to Sweden the second of two Air Tractor AT-802F Fire Boss scooper water bombers. The aerial firefighting airplanes, pilots and support crews will fulfill a contract with the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) to enhance Sweden’s aerial firefighting capabilities. Operations will span April-September fire seasons from 2020 through 2023. The aircraft are stationed at Skavsta Airport in Nyköping, Sweden 100 km south of Stockholm.
