Spiller replaces Springer in HD 68 election

David Spiller (Rep.) defeated Craig Carter (Rep.) for the HD 68 seat to replace Senator Drew Springer (Rep.). Having the support of former candidates John Berry and Jason Brinkley helped to push Spiller to the win along with the backing from former Governor Rick Perry, who said, “I strongly urge conservatives to join behind David Spiller. He is a strong conservative you can trust.”

Spiller also garnered endorsements from multiple organizations that include the National Rifle Association (NRA), Texas Alliance for Life, Agriculture Teachers Association of Texas, and the Texas Academy of Family Physicians.

6,610 votes were reported at 100 percent during the early hours Feb. 24. According to the unofficial results, Spiller earned 4,158 (63 percent), and Carter earned 2,452 (37 percent).

Many were saddened to hear about the tragedy Carter suffered from losing his daughter and mother-in-law, killed in a hitand-run accident that also critically injured his 3-year-old son. Carter extended thanks to his supporters while conceding to Spiller.

This election fills the last vacancy in the Texas House of Representatives that remains predominantly Republican. Spiller said he is ready to use his “firsthand experience to address rural issues.”

The conservative Jacksboro attorney stands firm on his support of the Second Amendment, the right to life, and protecting rural values. He is an advocate of rural hospitals and schools.
