Democratic gubernatorial candidate Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke pledged to improve Texans’ wages, health care and schools to a standing-room-only crowd at Hometown Coffee and Tea during his barnstorming campaign swing through North Texas March 18.
A local foundation has pledged up to $10,000 in matching funds and is challenging Olney residents to help it raise $16,000 to get the city’s embattled volunteer fire department through a busy fire season. The fire department will use the funds to repair vehicles and buy new fire truck tires.
Olney High School competed at the State TSMCA meet in San Antonio and came home with quite a bit of hardware. They earned overall third place team, third place Number Sense Team, fourth place Calculator Team, third Place Mathematics Team and third place Science team. Individual results are as follows:
Olney’s Cross-Examination Debate Team secured a fifth and ninth place spot in the State Championship rounds on the 14th and 15th of March, beating hundreds of other schools in this two person teamed event. Among the Olney Debaters were Adelade Edgington and Allie Barrington, who placed fifth, and Aidyn Bitner and Rodolfo Arce, who placed ninth. This two-day event took place in Austin, Texas, giving all four debaters a chance to visit the state’s capitol.
