Adelade Edgington wins UIL silver
Olney High School rising senior Adelade Edgington captured second place at the state-level University Interscholastic League contest for Informative Speaking.
The state finals were held May 24-25 in Austin. Adelade’s preliminary round topic was college tuition and whether President Joseph Biden would take steps to relieve student debt. Her final-round topic was about ways the United States can address mental health in teens.
Adelade ranked first in OISD’s region after the preliminary round. In the final round, she received the top ranking from one of the three judges.
She said her fears of being persuasive (persuasive speaking is a separate event) or running out of time did not materialize.
“I was glad at the way it turned out,” she said.
