Five gentle answers that turn away wrath
I am the queen of saying things I shouldn’t. I’m that friend you have who is always calling or texting you later saying, “I really shouldn’t have said that.” I’m sort of the equivalent to the girl in elementary school who asked you fifteen times a day if you were still her friend. Even when I don’t call and express my regret over something that came out of my mouth, chances are I’m agonizing over whether I should.
OHS grads make ASU Dean’s List
Four 2023 Olney High School graduates who took dual-credit college courses in their senior year achieved the Dean’s List at Angelo State University in San Angelo for the 2023 spring semester. Those graduates are Gatlin Guy, Aubrey Mahler, Alexa Paul, and Peyton Valdez. To be eligible for the ASU Dean’s List, the students had to maintain a 3.25 or better grade point average on a 4.0 scale, the University said in a May 30 press release.
Council rejects lot sales over zoning, lack of plans
The City Council rejected a bid for two foreclosed lots because the bidder failed to submit drawings or site plans to ensure the projects are appropriate.
County advances courthouse annex plan
Young County Commissioners approved the hiring of an architect to sketch plans to build out the old Graham Leader printing building as offices for county employees. The Commissioners voted 3-1 at their May 22 meeting to move ahead with the project to give the county more office and storage space for its expanding staff. The County had traded a plot of land beside the Young County Courthouse to the Graham Community Foundation for the Graham Leader building at 417 Second St. and an adjacent house at 403 Second St. County Judge Win Graham abstained from voting and Precinct 3 Commissioner Stacey Rogers opposed the motion to hire the architect.
