State Sen. Drew Springer made a brief stopover in Olney May 24 to discuss mental health concerns with Olney Police Chief Dan Birbeck and teacher recruitment and school funding issues with Olney Independent School District Superintendent Greg Roach.
The city of Olney will delay opening the municipal pool indefinitely because of serious structural problems that the Public Works Director K.C. Blassingame discovered while preparing the 1950s-era pool for its June 2 opening day, said Interim City Administrator Arpegea Pagsuberon.
The Young County Historical Commission won first-round approval from state historians for a grant to study how to preserve the 1921 jail in Graham town center, said Susan Smith, president of the Young County Historical Commission.
The Olney Wellness Center has six new exercise machines to tempt members and would-be members to embark on a summer training regimen. The Center swapped out two treadmills, two elliptical trainers and a recumbent cycle for new models and added an Ascent Trainer, said program coordinator Missy Reed.
