The winners of Young County primary election runoff races were decided by a handful of votes, in many cases, as turnout was an anemic 6.9 percent of the county’s 11,725 registered voters, according to unofficial results from the County Registrar.
The Olney Independent School District Board of Trustees approved an overall 5 percent pay increase for teachers and other school employees after school superintendent Dr. Greg Roach described the district’s difficulty in hiring in the midst of high inflation and low unemployment.
Seniors at Olney and Newcastle high schools got a preview of adult life in the “Welcome to the Real World!” program at the Olney Civic Center. They learned the basics of setting up and running a household within a budget and making smart financial choices.
The Senior Cub Center is not just for senior citizens. Although the Center is a hub for senior services such as wellness checks, birthday bashes and a $4 lunch, the public is welcome to join the festivities. Mr. Edward Furr invited the Enterprise staff to eat lunch with him and his wife, Sylvia. Unfortunately, the lunch crowd only included the Furrs and Olney Enterprise editor Gina Keating and myself.
