Rep. Williams selected chair of House Small Business Committee
Olney’s new congressman, Rep. Roger Williams, was selected as chairman of the U.S. House Small Business Committee this month after Republicans retook the lower chamber in the November election. Mr. Williams, a Republican, represents the 25th Congressional District, which was redrawn in 2020 to include Olney. The city previously was part of Rep. Jodey Arrington’s 19th Congressional District. Mr. Williams’ in-state office is in Cleburne. Mr. Williams, 73, grew up in Weatherford and attended Texas Christian University on a baseball scholarship. He played minor league baseball on the Atlanta Braves farm team and coached at TCU. He has operated a Weatherford automobile dealership inherited from his father since 1971, and is one of the wealthiest members of Congress, according to Roll Call, a news outlet that covers the U.S. Capitol. He served as Texas Secretary of State from 2005-7, and in various fundraising roles for Republican candidates. He was elected to the U.S. House in 2013. Mr. William said he will “be a fierce advocate for free market principles and pro-growth policies that have been stifled during the past two years of the Democrats’ one-party rule.”
