Federal COVID program promises mortgage help

Representatives from a federal program that helps people who fell behind on their mortgages, property taxes or utilities as a result of the COVID pandemic came to Olney on Jan. 25 to let residents know that emergency funds are available to help eligible Texas homeowners catch up. The program administered by Texas Homeowner Assistance can provide up to $65,000 in grants per application to eligible residents to cover delinquent home loans for traditional home mortgages, manufactured housing, contracts for deed or land contracts as well as property taxes, homeowners insurance, homeowner or condo association fees, the representative said. Applicants must own and occupy a Texas home and must have experienced a qualified financial hardship after Jan. 21, 2020, such as lost income or increased expenses due to the pandemic, the agency’s website, TexasHomeownerAssistance.com said. Olney residents can fill out an application online or can contact Young County’s local representative, Kim, at 325-214-7309 or 325-241-8886, extension 1205.
