The Olney Economic Development Corporation board last week discussed traffic studies for Main Street, possible improvements at Lake Olney, and several development questions during a wide-ranging meeting that touched on future economic development priorities for the city.
Texas Wheat board approves new silage assessment Texas wheat farmers will begin paying a new silage assessment of 16 cents per ton beginning with the 2026 harvest, following approval by producers in a statewide referendum.
Old Jail public restroom project advances Young County Commissioners voted unanimously at their March 9 meeting to authorize engineering plans for renovations to the county’s century-old jail building on the courthouse square. The plan would convert the building’s ground floor into public restrooms to serve events and visitors downtown.

The Olney Lady Cubs captured first place overall in the girls’ division at the annual Munday Relays, while the Olney Cubs boys team finished third, highlighting a strong day on the track and in the field for Olney athletes. Competitors from Olney High School and Newcastle High School traveled to Munday for the meet and returned with numerous top finishes and personal bests.
