Olney Hamilton Hospital directors voted Aug. 28 to keep the hospital district’s property tax rate unchanged at $0.445670 per $100 valuation, even as officials acknowledged that the hospital faces a significant financial challenge after posting a $1.6 million cumulative operating loss through the first five months of the fiscal year.
Olney property owners could see the City’s tax rate drop by nearly 10 cents under a proposed fiscal year 2026-27 budget approved by the City Council on Aug. 24.
The Newcastle Bobcats hosted a sixman tuner at Bobcat Stadium with the Forestburg Longhorns and Rotan Yellowhammers. No score was officially taken, but unofficially the Bobcats handled both teams with the ease and confidence of a seasoned group who have been playing together for years. The Bobcats opened the season traveling to Borden County to play the Coyotes. The Bobcats were holding on but slowly falling behind, but after the half, the Coyotes ran away with the game, winning 50-16. The Bobcats host the Guthrie Jaguars at home on September 4 for their homecoming at 7:30 p.m. The Newcastle Junior High Bobcats will play Guthrie at 5 p.m. at home.
Olney Hamilton Hospital patients will begin getting an early look at part of the new hospital campus this month — although they won’t be going inside the new building just yet.
