Olney Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Tom Parker told the Olney City Council last week that he hopes to soon solidify Young County’s participation in the City’s newly created Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone 2 through an ordinance slated for February.
The fear of reprisals for ignoring jury summons, instilled by a 2024 crackdown on no-show jurors, has apparently worn off, with the 90th Judicial District’s Judge Phillip Gregory reporting that only a fraction of people summoned for grand jury duty showed up for qualification on Jan. 12.
The Olney City Council unanimously approved an ordinance ordering a May 2 municipal election for mayor and two city council seats and authorizing the City to contract with Young County Elections to conduct the vote.
The Olney High School Cubs are battling hard this season and are 9-8 in the regular season before going into the district matchup with the Archer City Wildcats.
