On Nov. 18, Olney Hamilton Hospital [OHH] hosted the annual Thanksgiving Luncheon at the Olney Hamilton Hospital Education Building at 902 W. Hamilton, across the street from the hospital.
On November 18, the Olney Chamber of Commerce held its quarterly luncheon. The Chamber luncheon was sponsored by Stewart’s Grocery Store. Chamber members gathered at Hometown Coffee and Tea to enjoy a gourmet lunch and a special reading from an upcoming play.
The Young County Historical Commission (YCHC) met in an open meeting Saturday, Nov. 13, 2021, to discuss the current threat to the 1921 Young County Jail. The 1921 jail was recognized as a Recorded Texas Historical Landmark by the Texas Historical Commission in 2020, but the building’s future is uncertain.

When I sat down for dinner with Neal and Jana Welch in their lovely home, I expected to have a good steak, because that is Neal’s thing. I didn’t expect to walk away with a new perspective on ministry as the center of one’s life. Many of us say that we always put God first, but do we really? If God is first, we should overflow with His demeanor. If God is first, it would be evident in the way we treat others. Putting God first means being selfless and always willing to pour into the lives of others who may need an encouraging word. For the Welches, their lives revolve around God’s purpose for their family. It is refreshing to see a couple attempting to follow God’s will while enjoying every moment.
