The Whiteside Museum of Natural History (WMNH), located at 310 N. Washington Street, Seymour, is home to a world-class natural history museum. The museum is headed up by Chris Flis, the museum director and his team, Holly Simon (assistant director), Laura Nix (administrative assistant), Jacob Stripling (docent) and Robert T. Bakker (adjunct curator of paleontology).
Local artist and photographer Brie Dinwiddie Watson took some time from her photography and art classes to paint a mural in downtown Olney on the building located across from the newspaper office and museum located at 213 E. Main St.
The Archer County Museum and Arts Center (ACMAC) is located in the old Archer County Jail. The jail was built in 1910 and later decommissioned in 1974. The community wasted no time in turning the old jail into a county hub of heritage and the arts in 1975. The museum was run by local volunteers up until around 2017 when the museum shut down for various reasons.
Yes, you read that right…of course that was in the 1950s, five gallons for $1.05. Kids could drive up and down Main Street for hours on a Saturday night and never worry about running out of gas! That may sound strange, but driving up and down Main on Saturday night was a common practice for teens in the 50s.
