The Olney Community Library & Art Center drew a packed house at its biggest fundraiser of the year - the Dancing Stars of Olney dance competition on Sept. 23 - where the dance team from Tower Extrusions captured first-place honors for the second year running.

The community gathered at Tommy Perkins Park on Oct. 1 to kick off this year’s March for Jesus, an annual event and parade created by Verma Fobbs. The goal of the annual event is to openly show support for Jesus Christ. The event included a parade, food, music, gifts and a gospel message. After community members marched down Main Street, they met up a First Baptist Church of Olney to fellowship and worship God. A light lunch was served as attendees chatted and sang worship songs. Verma Fobbs gave a passionate testimony that greatly moved the crowd.

The City Council sharply hiked the annual lease rates at Lake Olney and Lake Cooper to pay for code enforcement, improvements, and police patrols but allowed owners of lakefront property to stay in their unpermitted homes or to sell them to new tenants if they don’t want to sign new leases on Jan. 1.
