Olney Night Out
The Olney Police Department hosted a community night out on Oct. 15 to give Young County and Olney residents a chance to meet with emergency personnel who serve the Young County area. DJ Rad Dad kept the evening bumping with his lively DJ skills, the Olney Volunteer Fire Department presented an exciting demonstration on what they do in the event of a collision. Many other organizations attended and gave residents one-onone experiences including the Graham Humane Society, Young County Sheriff ’s Office [YCSO] and Rocky Hickam Towing who works closely with OPD, YCSO, OVFD and many other emergency personnel.
Health Fair
Olney Hamilton Hospital [OHH] Hosted its annual Health Fair on Oct. 15. Many organizations were in attendance including the Pink Ladies- Olney Hamilton Hospital Auxiliary Volunteers, pictured above from left to right: Ellen Hardin, Glenna Stennett, Margie Snyder, and Judi Winslow OHH provided breakfast and door prizes throughout the morning while attendees had their blood sugar checked as well as many other routine health tests and exams.
OHH Auxiliary Meeting
Olney Hamilton Hospital and Seymour Hospital Auxiliaries hosted the TAHV District 6 Meeting on Monday, October 17th and it turned out to be a great experience for 10 out of the 17 hospital auxiliaries that were able to attend. Working together, the two auxiliaries hosted 63 volunteers, one of which was from Andrews, TX which is out of our District. We also had 5 guests. The Texas Association of Healthcare Volunteers (TAHV) President, Sue Kaulfus from Seguin, and President Elect Lynda De-Masco, form Kerrville were in attendance. Nita Hearne, Olney Hamilton Hospital Auxiliary President introduced the 2 additional TAHV Board Members present, Janice Allen (from Abilene) and Judi Winslow (from Olney), as well as the Past Presidents, Nancy Hays and Mary Braddock (both from Graham), and Judi Winslow (Olney). President Elect Lynda DeMasco gave the “Thought of the Day” after a very informative welcome by our hospital CEO Michael Huff. TAHV President Sue Kaulfus gave her President’s Address, explaining why she chose her theme “Volunteers Bloom Where They Are Planted”, and her platform, Parkinsons Disease. On display was a table with many Parkinsons booklets and handouts. Her pin displays the yellow rose of Texas, both because it represents Texas, and it also represents “friendship”.
Tire disposal project stalled by red tape
The city of Olney has stalled in its efforts to remove a huge pile of tires from an abandoned service station on Main Street because the $41,000 grant it received to remove them is mired in red tape, City Administrator Arpegea Pagsuberon said.
