Nita Hearn read the minutes and Lucretia Taylor presented the Treasurers Report. Both reports were approved. Present at the meeting were Evelyn Altmiller, Rita Choat, Nita Hearne, Ann Lundy, Kristy Nantz, Marilyn Norris, Margie Snyder, Gail Spears, Donna Sullivan, Lucretia Taylor, Ronni Walker, Phyllis Whitsitt, Judi Winslow, and Bobby Wright.

Sheriff installing new inmate phone system

The Young County Sheriff ’s Office is close to implementing a new phone system that allows inmates to make and take calls in their cells, will pay for itself and will generate revenue for the county, Sheriff Travis Babock told the commissioners court on Nov. 14. The sheriff asked the commissioners to amend the contract they approved on Aug. 1 to allow the phone contractor, Crown Correctional Telephone, to install new wiring for the phones.

County warns that lifted burn ban is temporary

Young County commissioners lifted the burn ban again at their regularly scheduled meeting on Nov. 14, but don’t count on it being lifted for long. The commissioners voted 5-0 on a rainy Monday to lift the ban to allow people to burn brush and limbs before the land dries out and the wildfire danger that has been elevated all year returns. Judge John Bullock said he had received multiple requests to lift the burn ban “and some of them weren’t very nice.”
