County warns that lifted burn ban is temporary
Young County commissioners lifted the burn ban again at their regularly scheduled meeting on Nov. 14, but don’t count on it being lifted for long. The commissioners voted 5-0 on a rainy Monday to lift the ban to allow people to burn brush and limbs before the land dries out and the wildfire danger that has been elevated all year returns. Judge John Bullock said he had received multiple requests to lift the burn ban “and some of them weren’t very nice.”
Precinct 1 Commissioner Stacey Creswell said he was on the fence but ultimately joined the court in lifting the ban. His precinct has been plagued by fires started by people who were illegally burning or failed to notify law enforcement before they burned. The commissioners emphasized during their discussions that the ban would be reinstated when dry conditions warrant and urged anyone who wants to burn to contact their local fire department in advance.
