	The Beauty of Old Paths

The Beauty of Old Paths

I spent the week with my family in the desert of the Trans-Pecos, a ruggedly beautiful part of far west Texas. Paisano Baptist Encampment was founded in July of 1915, and in August of the following year, George Truett, renowned pastor of First Baptist Dallas, preached the first camp sermon standing in the back of a wooden wagon. The history of the camp is long and interesting. Many great pastors, hymn writers, and musicians are a part of the story, along with thousands of regular Christian families who have walked the dusty pathways of what can only be described as a spiritual sanctuary in the middle of a dry, cactus-filled landscape.

The Power of God

Beloved of God, May the grace of our Lord, through the powerful and effectual working of the Holy Spirit, keep our hearts steadfast in Christ—especially in seasons of weakness and trial. Though our emotions may waver, our standing in Christ remains firm. We have been justified by faith, and through the death and resurrection of our Savior, we now possess peace with God and are anchored securely in His grace.

A Steadfast Heart

A Steadfast Heart

Dear Christian, Let us not shrink back into the ways of this world. Jesus said, “No man, having put his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” In the moments leading up to this statement, Jesus had been traveling, attracting many individuals who expressed a desire to follow Him. They recognized the significance of His teachings and noted His growing popularity throughout Judea and beyond. Eager to seize the opportunity for personal gain, they approached Him with various questions. Yet, when confronted with the reality of His presence, they began to realize that they had not fully counted the cost of discipleship.

Marriage Should Be Kind, Not Polite

Marriage Should Be Kind, Not Polite

From time to time, Chad and I meet with couples who are struggling. It’s a daunting task, I can tell you, to be living an imperfect marriage and then to try to help guide and support another imperfect marriage. If anyone ever claims that their marriage is actually perfect, I can tell you that either they just got married two days ago or they’re lying. Marriage will never be perfect because husbands and wives will never be perfect. I suppose in many ways, that’s a comfort, especially when you recognize some of the weaknesses of your own partnership.
