When Sawyer was seven and Emerald was just three, we all went to play mini golf as a family. Out there among the slightly run-down greens and the tiny replica of the Alamo, we played some really, really bad golf. I didn’t hit it hard enough (it kept rolling back to me), Adelade hit it too hard (it kept flying off the course), and Chad was complaining about the “inferior putters” that were obviously tripping up his game.
The Olney City Council last week approved the transfer of ownership of the Olney Community Library and Arts Center building to the Olney Independent School District to lower the library’s soaring insurance costs and to pay for needed upgrades to the 1979 structure.
One thing that I was taught while growing up was the importance of being sweet. Many of you women had the same experience. Girls should be sweet and kind, not loud or rude, they told us. After all, “sugar and spice and everything nice”– isn’t that what little girls are made of?
“In Him you were also circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, in the removal of the body of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ” Colossians 2:11 NASB What a precious truth it is to know that Scripture clearly teaches true religion is not external but internal—wrought in the heart by the powerful work of the Holy Spirit. It is He who brings about real and lasting transformation in the soul of the one whom God is saving, changing them from the inside out. As described in Colossians 2, this divine work softens hearts once hardened by sin, awakening spiritual sensitivity and conviction. The Holy Spirit brings the law to bear upon the heart, exposing hidden sin and revealing our deep need for a Savior. Through this gracious wounding, He prepares the soul to receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Redeemer.
