FBC University at First Baptist Church Olney offering Biblical Leadership Study

First Baptist Olney will be offering an eight-week study for Fall 2021 on biblical value-driven leadership development. The study will begin Aug. 22 and will end Oct. 17. The class will be held from 5:00-6:30 p.m. each Sunday evening on the FBCO campus. The cost of the course is $7 per person to help cover the cost of workbooks. All are welcome to attend the study.

Young County’s new hybrid voting machines

Texas legislators passed HB1708 and SB598, requiring ballot machines to produce a paper ballot. Therefore, Young County would have to have an electronic voting system that creates a voter-verifiable paper record to comply with the law.

Olney Chamber’s Annual Car Show, Sept. 11

The Olney Chamber of Commerce is hosting its annual car show Sept. 11 in Downtown Olney. Registration begins at 8 a.m., and the cost is $25. The proceeds generated allow the Chamber to reinvest into various community programs and events.

Olney received its newest business Aug. 2. Nana’s Sweets, located at 111 West Main St. in Olney, is sure to be a hit with children of all ages who have a hankering for sweets.

Region 9 awards ceremony and luncheon, Sept. 17 in Austin

Jennifer Conner, a 6th Grade English teacher at Jacksboro Middle School, Jacksboro ISD, has been named the 2022 Region 9 Secondary Teacher of the Year and Jamie Beckham, a 4th Grade Reading/Language Arts & Social Studies teacher at Crockett Elementary, Wichita Falls ISD, has been named the 2022 Region 9 Elementary Teacher of the Year. The announcement was made at the Regional Awards Luncheon at Region 9 ESC today where all districts’ nominees from the Region 9 schools were honored.
