Wakefield charged with second felony

An Olney man already jailed on a charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child was charged last month with a second count of the same charge, Young County District Attorney Dee Peavy said. Seth Cody Wakefield, 32, was arrested on June 11 following an Olney Police investigation into an outcry by the 14-year-old victim. He was charged with a second count involving the same victim and faces up to 20 years in prison on each count, or 40 years total, Ms. Peavy said. Mr. Wakefield has been held in Young County jail in lieu of $100,000 bail, sheriff ’s records show. A pretrial hearing was set for Oct. 17, she said.

Three arrested

Three arrested in Olney drug bust

A woman and two men from Seymour were arrested and charged with drug-related crimes on Sept. 4 during a traffic stop in Olney, Police Chief Dan Birbeck said. An officer stopped driver Belinda Latham, 45, and passengers, Tony Cunniff, 42, and Roy Lee Mitchell, 53, at the intersection of North Avenue G and West Main Street for failing to stop at a designated stopping point, Chief Birbeck said.

City posts public works director position

The city of Olney is looking for a new director of public works after KC Blassingame left the post on Aug. 19, Interim City Administrator Arpegea Pagsuberon said. Mr. Blassingame held the post for about 34 years, since August of 1988, Ms. Pagsuberon said. “KC was a valued asset to the city,” she said. “He had a lot of knowledge, experience, and information. We appreciate all the hard work he gave to the city in the 34 years he was with us.”
