When Sawyer was in kindergarten, the kids went to school dressed in their Halloween costumes. His big sister woke up excited and ready to get to school to show off her dress, watch movies, and eat as much candy as possible. But Sawyer was worried. He had a long list of concerns that morning: What if people don’t know that I’m a pirate?
In an ongoing effort to address the mental health needs of students, Olney Junior High School (OJHS) recently hosted representatives from Red River Hospital to deliver a presentation aimed at educating students and staff to recognize and respond to mental health crises. The event, which was held for students in grades 6 through 8, highlighted the signs of emotional distress and provided practical steps on how to help peers experiencing crises.
One of the best things about growing up in Olney was the experience of community: how folks would create a culture together.
