The Olney Recreation Association continued to build the Olney Country Club’s reputation as one of North Texas’ premier small-town golf destinations Saturday, July 11, as a full field of 37 teams competed in the annual Parent-Child Golf Tournament.
Nine Olney High School students returned home this month with sore muscles, unforgettable memories, and a new understanding of leadership after completing a seven- day expedition on Utah’s Green River through the prestigious National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS).
GRAHAM — Thousands of people from Graham, Olney, Newcastle, Loving and every corner of Young County lined the streets around the courthouse square dressed in stars, stripes and every shade of patriotic red, white and blue as approximately 110 parade entries celebrated America’s 250th birthday in a hometown spectacle that blended history, humor and Texas pride.
As ‘Murica - the United States of America, that is reached its 250th anniversary, Olneyites gathered at the Olney Country Club to celebrate the Fourth of July at the Olney Chamber of Commerce’s biggest event of the year, Olney in America. The event was a huge success this year, drawing an estimated 1,300 people, thanks to Olney Chamber Director Kimberly Smith and an army of volunteers.
The Young County Commissioners Court received its first look at a proposed tax abatement request from Project Saltworks during its June 22 meeting, hearing from company representatives and citizens divided over the prospect of a large-scale data center located about 16 miles south of Olney.
