A house fire destroyed a residence at 209 Cherry Street in Olney around midday on Sunday, Jan. 25 in the midst of Winter Storm Fern, leaving the home uninhabitable and displacing its occupants.
A Honduran man who had been living in Olney was taken into federal custody and deported last month after pleading guilty to multiple violent offenses in Young County, according to statements from the Young County District Attorney’s Office and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
Plans to build new homes on long-vacant, city-owned lots in northeast Olney are beginning to emerge following last month’s approval of a tax increment reinvestment zone aimed at revitalizing one of the city’s most neglected areas.
