A standing-room-only crowd filled the Young County Commissioners Court chambers on Oct. 14 to debate a proposed multi-billion- dollar data center project that could bring hundreds of jobs and millions in new tax revenue to the county.
The Olney City Council voted Oct. 13 to appoint Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Joey Stewart as the city’s new municipal judge, filling the position left vacant by last month’s retirement of Judge Stan Mahler after 18 years of service.
Stewart’s Food Store had its beginning in 1975 when Harold and Faye Stewart bought Oak Street Grocery from Luther and Vearl Johnson.This small neighborhood store, built around 1930, was located at the intersection of Oak and Avenue F. Harold formerly worked for Mrs. Baird’s Bread for the previous nineteen years delivering bread to grocery stores, restaurants, and schools in Olney and the surrounding communities making many friends throughout the area.
When COVID shut down nursing homes in 2020, Olney resident Spencer Key wanted a way to cheer up his mother, who had just moved into assisted living. Window visits weren’t enough, so he searched for a sign he could place outside her window with a simple message: We love you, Mom.
Olney City Administrator Simon Dwyer has resigned his post to accept a position with another city, Mayor Rue Rogers confirmed this week.
