USDA Offers Home Upgrade Grants, Zero Down Loans at April 2 Olney Workshop
Residents age 62 and older will have an opportunity April 2 to receive help applying for federal grants to repair their homes during a USDA outreach workshop at the Young County–Olney Senior Center. No reservations are needed and the workshop is open to all.
A representative from the U.S. Department of Agriculture will be available from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to assist residents in completing applications for two programs: the Single-Family Housing Direct Home Loan program and the Single-Family Housing Home Repair program, according to Olney Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Tom Parker.
The workshop is designed to help residents navigate the paperwork required for the programs and determine whether they qualify.
The home repair program offers grants of up to $10,000 for qualified homeowners over age 62 who earn less than $42,000 per year. The funds can be used for improvements such as replacing HVAC systems, installing new windows, or making safety and accessibility upgrades to a home, Mr. Parker said.
The USDA also offers mortgages of up to $300,000 with no downpayment for qualified buyers.
Residents interested in applying should bring recent tax returns and documentation of any government benefits they receive, which will help determine eligibility.
The OEDC will also provide lunch for attendees during the workshop.
