All year long, I look forward to those last few moments of Christmas Eve, when our PJ-clad kids are almost to the excitement breaking point. When they were little, they would literally run in circles, singing and laughing. It’s almost like their brains couldn’t handle the truth that Christmas was only a few short sleeping hours away, and their joy was practically breathtaking.

As Olney ISD completes the first half of 2022-2023 and heads into the Christmas break, we are counting our blessings. Enrollment is at a level not seen since the 20142015 school year. Our instructional staff continues to make huge strides with students after the impact of COVID and our Elementary campus just won their 6th consecutive district UIL championship. I would challenge any 2A district in the state to match the academic and extracurricular programming options that we are fortunate enough to offer our students. Our fine arts programs consistently operate at a high level and our athletic programs continue to show good, steady improvement and flat compete at everything they do. Playoffs are fun! This is a good place for children to attend school, adults to work, and a great place to live. We are looking forward to a very productive and very busy spring. We will continue to do our best to tend our kids in spite of the unreasonable demands placed on us by state and federal legislators and a runaway bureaucracy that has really little positive impact on children.
On behalf of Olney Senior Cub Center board of directors, staff, and volunteers we would like to thank the many people of Olney for all your support, volunteerism, and hard work throughout the year! We fed over 23,000 meals in the last year to seniors, the disabled, and underprivileged; and provided 50 quality of life activities and 250 social engagements for seniors. What an honor! For the new year we are looking to serve 24,000+ meals; have 61 quality of life activities (including Bingo, Acrylic Painting, and Craft Workshops); hold 12 community care educational classes; invite 6 guest speakers; and offer 252 social engagements for seniors.
