The Sound Performs at FBC 20 years of quilt stories on display at Interbank

A group of quilters who have been wrapping North Texas with their loving creations for 20 years hung a display of their work at Olney Interbank on May 8. The nine quilts follow the same pattern made with unique color schemes. The group’s work will hang at the bank for two to three months, evoking two decades of good works.

Junior Altruistic Club members met in the home of Karen Craig on Wednesday, April 26, for their last meeting of the year. A lovely brunch was served by hostesses Jan Tyler, Diane Ickert, and Karen Craig. Club business and activities were discussed, followed by the installation of the new 2023-2024 officers. Parliamentarian Trudy Capps used a “beach vacation” theme to install the new officers, and each one received a beach item that corresponded with their position. The new officers are President, Barbara Calvin; 1st Vice President, Tammy Montgomery; 2nd Vice President, Valorie Mahler; Recording Secretary, Diane Ickert; Corresponding Secretary, Dee Dee Fite; Treasurer, Jan Tyler; Reporter, Julie Hinson; and Parliamentarian, Karen Craig. Two prospective members were nominated for membership. Summer Branum and Anna Rogers were unanimously voted in as new members. At the conclusion of the meeting, members voted to donate funds raised by their geranium sales to four organizations in Olney: Olney Community Library, Olney Senior Cub Center, House of Mercy, and Keep Olney Beautiful. The club appreciates the community’s support of the geranium sale. In the fall, the club will kick off a new year with its fall luncheon.

Matt Austin Band fundraiser for Cody Stephens

The American Legion Post 414 in Olney sponsored a concert and dance on Friday night featuring the Matt Austin Band and benefiting Olney native Cody Stephens who is battling cancer. Mr. Stephens attended Olney High School and lives in Archer City. He is married to Candance Huffman Stephens and has two children. A second fundraiser for Mr. Stephens, featuring a live auction, raffle, and meal, is scheduled for May 13 at The Red Barn in Newcastle. Tickets cost $20 per person, meal tickets can be purchased at the gate. 12 and under are free. The meal starts at 6 p.m. and includes a fish dinner and live music from Finis Smith. The Red Barn is at 5879 FM 61 in Newcastle.

The April Olney Market Days was a success as many shoppers were spotted chatting and shopping in downtown Olney off Main Street. “We had a great turnout and a lot of new vendors this round, weather was perfect aside from the a little windy,” OMD creator Katie Carls, who also owns the Rebel Soul Mercantile booth, said.
