It’s officially marching season and the Pride of Olney High School Band advanced from the regional contest. On Saturday, Oct. 18, the band competed at Memorial Stadium in Wichita Falls against other bands in the region and they advanced to the Area competition, which was on Oct. 26 in Mineral Wells.
Lealonnie Flores is a new teacher and coach at Olney ISD. She has been married to her husband, Art Flores, for 12 years, and they have two children. They have a 10-year-old son named Major and a 7-year-old daughter named Josey, and they also have a 1-year-old puppy named Poncho.
The state fair took place on Sept. 30, and brothers Kaiden and Mason Johnson showed pigs in the State Fair of Texas Barrow show. Mason showed a duroc burrow, and Kaiden showed a spot barrow. Due to inadequate features, neither of their pigs placed in the show, according to the FFA sponsor. The show, however, was a great learning opportunity for both, as well as a great time.
The volleyball season is rapidly coming to an end and basketball season is right around the corner. AS the Lady Cubs battle it out in the post season, they still set aside special games to celebrate or bring awareness to certain causes. The Lady Cubs hosted the Windthorst Lady Trojans for their annual Pink Out game and the Lady Trojans showed up in plenty of pink as well. Pink Out games are hosted during October to help bring awareness to breast cancer by wearing pink shirts, socks, ribbons and numerous clothing options. By keeping breast cancer awareness at the forefront all month long it helps women to schedule those important yearly exams and to pray and give support to those battling breast cancer. The Lady Cubs fell to the Lady Trojans in 3 for the series.
The Olney Cubs faced a tough challenge Friday night in their annual Pink Out game, falling to the Hawley Bearcats 6-53.
