Imagine her for a moment. A young teenager, 13-years old, maybe. The gangly long arms and legs of a growing girl. The grown-up teeth that still seem a bit too large for her childish face. Freckles across her nose, perhaps. The sparkling eyes of a curious child. She has probably giggled with friends today.
It’s human nature to want to make things easier for our loved ones – and to have great concern about adding any stress to their lives. In fact, 72% of retirees say that one of their biggest fears is becoming a burden on their families, according to the Edward Jones/Age Wave Four Pillars of the New Retirement study. How can you address this fear?
The law of Conservation of Energy states that “Energy cannot be created or destroyed.” In other words, the total amount of energy in the universe never changes, although it may change from one form to another. Energy never disappears, but it does change form.
Recently, I had a chance to watch the 2019 film “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” starring Tom Hanks, who played Mr. Fred Rogers. Of course, I know that I am late for the party. Still, I enjoyed the movie so much, and I thought it was worth mentioning to all the people who grew up watching “Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood,” which first aired on Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) in 1968—before I was born—and continued until 2001. In 31 seasons, the show significantly impacted little boys and girls throughout the world, including me.
