We never really know what is going on in someone’s life on any given day. With so much negativity in the world these days, it seems problems and feelings just seem to pile up higher with each day. A philosophy I adopted, maybe 9 or 10 years ago if I recollect, is fake-it-til-you make it.
Previously I wrote about the roles of various healthcare providers in mental healthcare, except one! This past week I was talking with one of our own Medical Doctors here in Hamilton Hospital and the importance of the PCP in accessing mental health services was brought up. I thanked the MD for reminding me of this important fact. Please allow me to now discuss the importance of the PCP!
As I have said on many occasions, I pride myself on being a southern gentleman [SG], even though I fail often at my duty as a southern gentleman. I had been thinking lately that the rules of being an SG have been updated, whether I like it or not. Over the years, with women being seen as equals and in most situations, this is true, not all women like to be treated by a true SG in a gentlemanly way.
Right now, we Americans face difficult financial times and yet our society sees financial success as the cause of happiness and financial problems as sadness. It is easy to assume that higher income naturally leads to a higher quality of life. Yet among senior adults, this assumption frequently fails to be true.
