Newcastle HS Performs ‘Nellie’ for OAP
The student actors and actresses at Newcastle High School chose “Nellie” as their One Act Play for competition this year.
The play takes place in the late 1800s and is about a newspaper reporter, Nellie Bly played by Emma Hawkins, who spent 10 days in Blackwell insane asylum of New York so she could witness firsthand the abuse of the residents and later write an article on it.
The troupe of NHS actors, actresses, cast, crew and director recently advanced in district competition and will perform at the Bi-District competition.
Family, friends and community turned out to watch OHS actors and actresses perform in a special public showing last week. (See more photos on Page 10).
