OHH Topping Out Ceremony: A New Chapter Begins

On October 1st, Olney Hamilton Hospital marked a historic milestone by placing the final beam on our new facility— a time-honored tradition known as Topping Out. This symbolic moment celebrates the completion of Phase One and ushers in the life of the new building.

Following Scandinavian tradition, an evergreen tree was set on the beam, representing the building’s roots and the promise of future growth. The U.S. flag honored our nation’s legacy of building for tomorrow, and the Texas flag reflected our Lone Star tradition of independence. Together, they remind us that this project is more than steel and concrete—it is a promise to our community.

Hospital CEO Mr. Huff reflected on the hospital’s legacy “For over 115 years, Olney Hamilton Hospital has been a cornerstone of care. With this state-ofthe- art facility, we reaffirm our commitment to delivering exceptional healthcare—right here at home, by staff you know and trust, which is why Olney Hamilton Hospital has received 5 national awards for quality and patient care.”

Acknowledgments were given to Guide Architects and Skiles Construction, whose leadership and skilled trades have made this vision possible.

Mr. Lovett drew a powerful comparison between those who build with steel and those who build with healing: “You are the true brick and mortar. You are the concrete of commitment and masons of medicine. You are the builders of broken bodies and the conduit of care that makes our hospital a trusted place of healing.”

As staff and community members signed the beam, they symbolically tied themselves to the future of healthcare in Olney. This moment reflects not only the progress made but also the challenges overcome to bring us here. For a community to thrive, we need great schools, vibrant churches, and above all, excellent healthcare. Thanks to your unwavering support, that vision is becoming reality.

Dr. Mark Mankins, Chief of Medical Staff, called it a “long-awaited dream come true,” adding: “Our new hospital will feature modern facilities, cutting-edge technology, and a team of highly skilled professionals. It’s not just a building— it’s a place where healing happens, where compassionate care is the standard, and where every patient is treated like family.”

To our tireless healthcare workers: your dedication will breathe life into these walls. You are the heart of this hospital.

To our community: this hospital is for you. We promise that you and your loved ones will always have access to top-quality care—close to home.

The speeches have been spoken, blessings have been given, and gratitude has been shared. As the final beam was lifted into place, Phase Two begins.
