Thankfull for the small things

Thankfull for the small things

A while back my granddaughter had a difficult surgery, with a long term for full recovery. She had a bright outlook, and handled life with grace. One day I saw her FB post that impressed me as we all face life as it comes.

Her FB post read as follows: “When life is hard, you find little things that make you happy! I planted a peach tree about 3 years ago. Last year we got 7 tiny peaches off it. This year we have 12 normal sized peaches, and 2 more left to ripen more. It is something worth rejoicing over!”

As I think about her words, I am reminded of the devastating news on July 4th of the floods in the Hill Country of Texas that took so many lives. The vast number of those lost in the flood included a group of young girls who were at Camp Mystic that had a long,100 year history of Christian ministry to young girls. What a devastating time in the lives of all those families who lost loved ones.

We watched the news hour after hour, and day after day. We cried along with every news update, and prayed that another child might be found. Those families will not have the joy of watching their children grow and experience life day by day. We are all sad, and we hurt for those families.

So, as we are starting school in 2025, we can be thankful that our children are here and are anxious to start the new adventures in their lives. There will be busy schedules with school, activities, achieving new goals, and all the things the new school year brings.

Let’s remember to be thankful for the small things in life. Life is precious.
