The Olney Economic Development Corporation (OEDC) board confronted city leaders about delays in setting up a building department, a move the OEDC said is crucial for keeping local housing projects on track. The lack of a centralized process for permits and utilities has frustrated developers, including one group that has already abandoned plans to build ten homes in the city, OEDC Board President Johnny Moore told the City Council at its Oct. 14 meeting.
The Olney City Council heard updates at its Oct. 14 meeting from civil engineering firm Corlett Probst & Boyd (CPB) about plans to rebid the city’s long-delayed water treatment plant project. Executives from the firm, T. Blane Boswell, project engineer, and Devin Smith, president and project engineer, outlined the next steps after last year’s bidding process came in about $2 million above the City’s $13.5 million budget.
The Olney Hamilton Hospital board of directors on Oct. 25 welcomed Kathrine Smith, great-granddaughter of hospital founder Dr. George B. Hamilton and granddaughter of longtime OHH board members Glenn and Kathrine Atchley.
