“Will you be my valentine?” This question is by far the most expensive question many of us will ask this year. Some sources estimate that the average Valentine’s Day gift or expense will cost approximately $200. In 2020, Valentine’s Day spending in the U.S. totaled more than $20 billion, and we are expected to top that amount in 2021. Why do we spend more (or nearly as much) on Valentine’s Day than we spend on Christmas in many cases?

Today beloved, I write a small devotion to those who may read, who are lost in their transgressions and have no desire to know The Lord Jesus Christ. May the grace of God give you the strength to examine your own life. May He give you the eyes to look deep into your own heart and see the corruption of sin that is woven deep into the fabric of your soul. For just as a disease enters into your body and is carried along by the bloodstream until the entire body is affected by it, so sin has corrupted your mind and has blinded you to the reality of God’s wrath and justice that is abiding upon you. Sinner, unrepentant soul, I have good news for you, for God has said in His infallible word, “I have no pleasure in the death of anyone who dies,” declares the Lord GOD. “Therefore, repent and live.”
You’d be hard-pressed to find a discussion on social media about Christian relationships that doesn’t include a mention of the book The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman. Dr. Chapman’s ideas about the ways that couples give and receive love really seemed to revolutionize the Christian marriage counseling world. He hit on something true: we all feel and hear love in different ways.
