Prayer Over Students becomes a weeklong event
As the children headed back to the classroom on Aug. 16 at Olney Independent School District, the teachers and parents were not the only ones getting ready. The Prayer over the Students that was set for the previous Sunday, Aug. 13, was expanded to encompass the entire week.
OPD makes 6 drug arrests since Aug. 1
Olney Police arrested six people on drug charges since Aug. 1, a slight uptick from previous months, including habitual offenders as well as people driving through town, Police Chief Dan Birbeck said. Olney Police Cpl. Miranda Wright made four of the arrests during traffic stops and a warrant search, she said. The busts yielded quantities of heroin, methamphetamine, psilocybin “mushrooms” and drug paraphernalia.
Commissioners pass FY 2024 budget, tax hike
The Young County Commissioners Court passed its Fiscal Year 2024 budget and a small tax hike during a 14-minute meeting in which no members of the public showed up to comment.
